Time to wake up early, crawl up in the hunting stand, and read. Thanks to Harden's taxidermy, we've got all sorts of beautifully preserved carcasses to entice you to buy our favorite hunting books of the season.

Fall has arrived when I can make a trip to Lewis Produce and pick up the pumpkins for my porch. But it's Fall harvest time and you can never leave the farmers market with only the items you came for. Two new cookbooks have me particularly excited about my farm fresh pickins.
The delightful Sheri Castle recently released her New Southern Garden Cookbook. What I like about this one is that it's organized alphabetically by ingredients. So I can look up butternut squash and find numerous ways to prepare my beautiful gourd. It's lacking the page-by-page beautiful pictures that I like to see in a cookbook, but I appreciate the density of recipes.
And Top Chef Hugh Acheson's A New Turn in the South releases tomorrow for the more progressive southern cook. I bought peanuts today so I can make some of his boiled peanut hummus. Yummus. (Insider's info: Acheson will be in town on October 29 for the Ferguson wedding.)
