Ever wondered what it would be like to meet with your favorite authors face-to-face, to ask them questions about their favorite books and most memorable characters? The Bookshelf and the Thomas County Public Library plan to make that dream a reality this Saturday at Reader Meet Writer, a speed-dating-style event with local authors. The fair will include appearances by and meetings with regional favorites Elizabeth Stuckey-French, Janet Litherland, Glynn Marsh Alam, Donna Meredith, and Rhett DeVane, as well as newbie novelists Melinda Michelle, Judy Leggett, and Mary O. Travers. Participating authors will perform readings of their books and discuss their craft with audience members, and the novels featured range from children to young adult to adult, so readers with all sorts of interests are welcome!
The best part? Admission to the event is free.
We'll see you this Saturday at 1:00 at the Thomas County Library. Be sure to bring your best questions for the authors!

Author and illustrator William Joyce captured readers -- and later, audiences -- with his book-turned-Oscar-winning-short-film The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. Now, Joyce has returned with a collection of books based on our long-lost "guardians of childhood," including the man on the moon, the sandman, Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, and the tooth fairy. Joyce's latest series brings to life these childhood characters and their harrowing adventures, and on November 21, audiences will again have the chance to see Joyce's work on the big screen. His film Rise of the Guardianswill tie together the characters from his "Guardians of Childhood" series and will feature Joyce's unique artistry and illustration. Until the film debuts this fall, come by the store to check out Joyce's beautiful books. Each one is filled with the stories and pictures we've grown to love from this talented writer.
